Bad Dog! #5

Wow, this will be my fifth post that I have titled "Bad Dog". Although there have been hundreds of things that Nanook has destroyed apparently I have only dedicated entire posts to about five.

This is Nanook's little handy work from lounging on the stairs landing. He is very fond of sleeping on stairs, unfortunately while he is laying on his back his back legs tend to scrape the crap out of our walls. I patch it, it returns, I patch it again, it returns with a vengeance. I am at a loss as to what to do. Is there a product out there that can protect the walls without screaming tacky?

The culprit!

A visit to the vet

The best doggie ever and oh so handsome.

On wednesday I took Nanook into the vet for his yearly vaccinations. It is a bitter sweet experience every year. I hate taking him in because he gets so scared and fidgety but I love taking him because I get so much praise and my head swells to the size of a hot air balloon. As soon as I pulled him out of the car he took one look at the building and jumped right back in. Poor guy. He does have a clean bill of health though and the doc was singing my praise with how beautiful his coat is, how fit he was and most importantly how he was such a good boy.
I hummed and hawed over getting him the kennel cough vaccine. At first I immediatley said no, not needed. Then after speaking with the vet I decided it was a necessary precaution to take. Nanook doesn't spend a lot of time around other dogs but why take the chance that it may make him sick or worse, make another dog sick that isn't as healthy as he is, so I added the kennel cough vaccine to the cocktail. $130.00 later and we are good to go till November when his rabies shots are due, pennies compared to the love he has to give us in return.

Bad Dog

Blair, Kaiya and I headed out to order our new flooring (yeah zombie lovers, it's ordered and on it's way!). Upon returning home I stepped into the house to discover shredded pieces of blue paper all over the floor. Nanook had eaten another book!! BAD DOG!
First off, it wasn't just any book. It was a hard cover book that I had borrowed from my mother in law (sorry Louise). Secondly, when I left the house I had it tucked neatly away in my lunch bag to take to work the next day (the only place I get to read now a days *la sigh*). Some how the damn dog sniffed it out so he could have a little bit of roughage while we were out. I am not sure what it is about books but next to creams (hand creams, bum creams, sun screen etc.) they are his favourite snacks.

I really should start numbering my bad dog posts. Then again I would have to start posting all the bad dog things that he does and lets face it, this is not a bad dog blog.

Thank you for your Support!

Yesterday I slipped on my sneakers and walked in the Parkinson Super Walk. This is my second year walking and it was just as fun as last year. I ended up raising just over $400 (I know, I could have done better). We came in almost dead last, but that was to be expected with 3 toddlers, 2 dogs a stroller a wagon and a 7 month pregnant lady. Both Kaiya and Loxley ended up peeing in the bushes and we needed to stop at the river to let the doggies have a drink and cool down. All in all it was a success. I just wanted to thank everyone for their support.

The day started off with a little adrenaline kick, when we first arrived at the walk Blair whisked Kaiya away immediately to go pee. Blair was a but half way through the parking lot when I yelled "do you have the keys for the car?"

"yes" he replied.

In which time I decided to lock the doors to the car. As soon as I slammed to car door closed I heard the most god awful noise come out of Nanook. He was screaming and yelling, barking and crying. Oh my god I slammed his tail in the door, which is now locked! I am in a panic! I got down beside him tried to pull his tail out and calm him at the same time as SCREAMING at Blair "UNLOCK THE DOOR". I'm not sure if he couldn't hear me over Nanook or my screaming was just so inaudible because I was in such a panic but Blair just kept sauntering over. It didn't faze him one bit that both his wife and dog were screaming their heads off. After a minute or so of sheer hell he finally got the message and unlocked the door.

After some calming down and a quick inspection of the tail Nanook was just fine. Nothing was broken but his nerves were a little rattled.

When I asked Blair about the slow reaction he replied "I didn't know what was going on, I thought Nanook was attacking you." Oh great. Good to know that if I was ever really attacked by someone or something that I am on my own, no knight in shining armor running to my aid.

Poopa-doopa-doo-doo

Yes this is another Poop post.

Last night Blair, Kaiya and I headed out to one of Blair's co-workers house for a retirement party/dinner. Kaiya did great with using the toilet there (she is about 80% potty trained now by the way). Upon returning home I walked into the door and WHAM, a poop smell hit me like a wall. Oh for F's sake. There was puppy diarrhea all over the living room. We were only gone for a few hours tops, what the heck is he doing pooping all over my house?! You would think that after all the crap that Nanook eats his stomach would be as hard as nails. Nope.
So after a game of rock, paper, scissors, Blair ended up cleaning up the poop while I bathed Kaiya. After a small fight to the death, Kaiya fell asleep and all was quiet.

At around 2:00 in the morning, little pitter patter of feet entered our room, crawled onto our bed and laid down. After a few minutes I heard the distinct sound of a large body jumping off the bed and running to the door. Nanook had to go poop again! So with a kick Blair got up and let the damn dog out so he wouldn't shit all over my floor again.

Back to bed and all is quiet.

6:00 am hits and a small cry and light knocking is heard from down the hall. Kaiya was up. Since it sounded as though she had gotten back into bed I just left her with her soft wimpering wondering if she would go back to sleep till 7:00. Big mistake! Within minutes she was up again and frantically crying and banging on the door.

Blair got up to bring her into bed with him so that I could hop in the shower and get ready for the day. As he opened her door I heard her crying "poop, poop" Blair replied "Do you have to go poop?" pause "oh no, did you go poop?"

Thinking nothing of this since she had a diaper on when she went to bed I started to drag my large ass to the shower when I heard "oh no did you go poop on the floor?!"
My heart sank. Blair whisked her away to the bathroom to finish her business and I peeked into her room to see how bad the damage was. Apparently she had to go, so she took off her diaper and pooped by her door. As soon as Blair opened her door the nugget got wedged under it and smeared into a large semi circle of filth. What a mess.

I volunteered to clean that one up.

If it's not one child then it's the other, and I am ready for a third?! Not only would I have gotten a full nights sleep for the first time in a month if Nanook hadn't woken us up but we just cannot get this poop thing under control. I think Laminate might be a good option right about now.

Who sleeps like this?!

Apparently Nanook does.

I don't know if I have ever seen a dog sleep with their mouth open. Kinda weirded me out.

Yup, that's his tongue hanging out of his mouth.

So it's going to be THAT kind of day is it?!

The babe has come down with yet another cold. Yuck. Which means that I have come down with yet another cold. I am feeling a little sorry for myself since not only do I feel like crap and sleep like crap on good days but Kaiya still has not settled back into sleeping through the night and needing constant reassurance from us that we are still alive and in the next room. Last night was one of the worst. She was up periodically through out the night. At one point Blair even went and slept on the floor of her room till she settled.

At about 5 this morning she woke up AGAIN. This time we put our foot down, no sleeping on the floor, no snuggles, back tickles etc. At 6 we caved and Kaiya came to bed with us. For 15 minutes we slept like logs. Then the day broke and up Blair and I got to get ready for work, babe still sound asleep in our bed (go figure).

I go downstairs, make a nice sandwich for lunch walk out of the room for a brief 2 minutes only to come back in and discover that my sandwich is missing. Keep in mind that I am still a little foggy and that I automatically assume I have placed it some where weird. I search the cupboards, the freezer, the pantry, nothing. I am beginning to doubt I ever made a sandwich. Fine, I will make another. Open the fridge, I used the last 2 slices of bread (minus the 2 nasty end pieces that no one eats and I am not about to make an exception for today) with the first sandwich. Pouting I make my way upstairs to whine to Blair.

"I am so annoyed, I made a sandwich for lunch and now I can't find it."
"What do you mean you can't find it?"
"Well I went to the bathroom, came out and it was gone"
"I'll come down and help."
"No, I think Nanook ate it."
"What?! Did you put it on the floor?" (Nanook has never, ever eaten anything off the counters before, hence the whole reason I never suspected him to begin with).
"No, it was on the counter. I think he ate it."

Blair still took a look around the kitchen, but our furry little friend had the look of guilt on his face. At least someone enjoyed my lunch today.

The weekend of campfires, Wicked, poop and sand

What an awesome weekend! I am exhausted and ready for another weekend to recuperate after this one, but it was well worth it.

Blair and I ended up double booking ourselves for this weekend about a month ago. Correction I ended up double booking myself.

We booked a campsite out a Sylvan lake for Friday and Saturday night not realizing that I had tickets with my mom and sister for Saturday night for the musical Wicked. I was not about to miss this maybe once in a lifetime opportunity to see it so we planned to camp together Friday, I drive home Saturday, see the musical, then drive back Sunday to go to the beach with Babe and Daddy. The campsite is about an hour and a half from our town so I didn't think it would be a big deal ( I was dreading it, but knew I could do it for Wicked).

Driving down on Friday was a sh*t show! We brought Nanook with us and we planned to have me drive home with him on Saturday and leave him home Sunday so we may all head to the beach (no doggies allowed remember). *Phew* that's a mouth full.

On the drive my two "children" fought the whole way! To me we might as well had two siblings back there because it was non stop bickering. Nanook was whining and barking because Kaiya was pulling his fur, Kaiya was whining and crying because Nanook was trying to lay on top of her. It was a MESS. I almost turned around and said, "stop it you two, or I am turning this car around right NOW!" but what good would that of done, neither of them would of understood what that meant.

Once at the campsite and set up Nanook was no better. he wanted off his leash to explore, but we all know Nanook. Also soon as you unclip him he is gone! So every 10 minutes or so I was hiking through the thick trees trying to untangle him, it was a disaster. If he wasn't tangled he was clothes lining us with his rope. If he was clothes lining us then he was whining because he wanted to get somewhere he just couldn't reach. needless to say, we will never take him again. Sorry buddy, you lost your camping privileges.

On Saturday the drive was uneventful, I ended up bringing home my sister in laws dog as well (they were experiencing the same frustrations with their pooch that we were) but the musical was AMAZING. the story line was changed a lot from the book, but it was still an amazing show. I highly recommend it. It had a lot of humour and special effects. The actors/singers were awesome and the story was great. 5 stars for sure!

Upon returning home at midnight I opened the door to find 2 excited puppies there to great him. A slight odor then hit my nostrils. Was this a smell of poop I can detect?! Flipping on the lights I was horrified and disappointed in the dogs to discover that someone sh*t on the carpet. Not just a little pile, but about 5. Oh doggies. I am not sure who it was but they both looked guilty. I would not be surprised of it had been both, one instigator and the other "oh thank goodness you pooped, I really have to go too."

Sunday, I left the dogs at home. Off to the beach! What a fun day. I made it back to the campsite in time to help Blair pack up and then we headed into Sylvan for a day of boat rides and sand.
Kaiya was thrilled to have a boat ride on Papa's boat. The water was choppy from all the other sea lovers (yes I realize it is just a lake) so the ride was very bouncy. Half way around the lake, with Kaiya on my lap, I began to feel something warm on my thighs. With Kaiya wearing a swim diaper, I figured it might of been a little pee. upon further inspection I realized that nope, it's not pee, it's poo. A lot of poop, all over my legs and my bathing suit and my shirt. Oh great. More F'in poop! dealing with dog sh*t wasn't enough, now I get sh*t on.

Back to the shore we go where babe is immediately passed of to Daddy and I take a nice long swim in the lake to wash off. YUCK!

All in all, I loved it. Can't wait for Kelowna next week.

Happy Birthday Nanook!

Today is Nanook's 4th Birthday. What an old man, maybe now he will start to settle down a bit. We took him to the pet store a few days ago to get some puppy food and the girl that was helping us pick out a new brand for him made some comment about him being a puppy still and asked how old he was. Of course we told her the truth. "Wow, I thought he was about 6 or 7 months." Nope, he is just full of beans. I wonder how long he will be a "puppy" for?

For more awesome pictures of Nanook, check out a past post about him HERE.

It is not a dogs life!

I am beginning to get frustrated with the fact that you are not allowed to take your dog ANYWHERE! We are in the process of planning our camping trips for the year and like most people, I love to camp near a body of water. There is nothing better than heading to the beach for a fun filled day of water wading and sand castles (as a Pisces I am naturally a water person, if I could be reincarnated as a mermaid, I would be).

Our dilemma is finding a beach where you can bring your doggy to. They just don't exist. I feel so bummed for my Mister. I chose to share my life with a pet so that I could SHARE my life with a pet. I don't want to leave him at home to stare out the window with a blank look on his face waiting for us to come home just so that we can all go the beach without him. It sucks! Dogs are meant to be outside, yet they aren't allowed to go anywhere.

We are planning on heading to BC for a week. We are hitting up a very popular lake/city and apparently bylaw states that dogs are not allowed in the lake water. Period. Not only can we not take him to the beach (which they are banned from) but he can't be on the boat, just in case he might fall in the water. He can't go for a swim, he can't cool off his paws. What a life!

Camping would be awesome for him, but he needs to be on leash at all times which means no fun for him, me or Kaiya (who he will unsuspectingly take out with his leash as he races for the chattering squirrel).

Animals just have no rights. This is discrimination at it's finest. Just because a few jackasses weren't abiding by the rules doesn't mean all dogs and their guardians should be punished. What's next? Your dog isn't allowed outside of your property?!

PS: Pick up your dog shit! Yeah, I'm talking to you. Don't ruin it for everyone else! If you feel that you can't do that, then don't own a dog!!

Paper Bag Prince

After a nice dinner of take out at the in laws Nanook got a bag stuck on his head that had Chinese food stuck to the bottom. He walked around for 5 minutes with this thing on his head and I could not stop laughing. He is most definitely too handsome to hide that face away in a paper bag.

Drop it like it's hot

Literally that's what Nanook has been doing. Shedding his winter fur since the weather has started to warm up. YUCK! I brushed small kittens off of him on Saturday... and he still has lots to go.

Blanket for Kalen

One of the things I had done for Megan at her baby shower, was have everyone sign a square of fabric for me to take home and make into a quilt. Well as luck would have it, the fabric markers I had bought that claimed to not wash off of fabrics. washed off of my little squares after I was done sewing everything together. I was so disappointed to say the least, but I still think the blanket turned out pretty nice.

Nanook trying to claim it as his own.
